When You Can’t Sleep

Darkness falls. Your body is weary, but your mind races in circles like a poor mouse stuck in a maze. The hours tick away and your body aches for a rest that never comes.

Sleepless nights are tough.

I’m writing this post in the wee hours of the morning, where most people are fast asleep, with a deep desire to shove caffeine straight into my veins just to get through the day. *Help me Jesus*

There isn’t enough caffeine in the world to fix a sleepless night. Thoughts of a busy day ahead just fuel the mind crazies. Been there? It’s a vicious cycle.

I’ve been deeply concerned about someone close to our family that needs help. The kind of help that only Jesus and a good medical provider can heal. There is nothing I (or the hubby) can do to “fix” this problem. Which is hard for me, since I’m a big problem solver. Or as the hubby says, sometimes I have a “fixing problem.” *He’s so right!*

I try to turn every dark thought and concern over to the Lord.

I pray myself to sleep these days because that’s all I can do to help.

But as I sit here in the wee morning hours, the Lord reminds me of the countless women who are also awake, worrying and praying for their loved ones. And my heart aches for them. I say a prayer and wish I could hug every one of these ladies right now and remind them to turn their thoughts heavenward.

The Lord knows the pain hidden deep within our hearts.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” ~ Matthew 11: 28-30

These verses are a beautiful reminder that we have a Creator who desires to have an intimate relationship with us through Jesus Christ. Jesus came to fulfill the law. Grace is now at work in our lives and nothing we can do will earn us a seat in heaven. No amount of worry over our loved ones will change a thing. God is sovereign and always in control. We are to lay our burdens down at the foot of the cross and let Him carry them.

Joy and sweet promises are found in God’s word!

What is burdening your heart these days? Lay those heavy burdens down and find sweet rest in King Jesus.
